Myotherapy

Myotherapy uses assessments and various manual therapies to assist in treating a wide range of musculoskeletal dysfunctions.

As well as using soft tissue manipulation, Myotherapy also uses other various therapeutic techniques such as dry needling, joint mobilisation, muscle energy techniques, myofascial release, cupping and corrective exercises in order to bring balance back to the muscular and skeletal systems of the body.

Some of the conditions Myotherapy can assist with are but are not limited to are:

Remedial

A more vigorous approach, remedial massage targets damaged, impaired, knotted or tense muscles and tendons.

Unlike relaxation massage, remedial targets chronic pain and focuses on the acute discomfort a client may present with.

Many musculoskeletal dysfunctions are treated with remedial massage and include but are not limited to frozen shoulder, sports injuries, tennis elbow, limited range of motion and general muscle aches and pains. 


Cupping

Used  to treat tightened muscles, release fascial restrictions and also for conditions such as but are not limited to;

  • Osteo and Rheumatoid Arthritis

  • Bruising

  • Asthma

  • Colds

When cupping is used, it creates a vacuum effect, this draws away toxins, promotes circulation and helps to alleviate tightened structures, increasing range of motion within the body.

 

 


Dry Needling

Dry Needling has been found to be one of the most effective ways to treat a Trigger Point (Muscle knot) as the depth of the needle allows for penetration into the muscle where the Trigger Point is located.

A trigger point is a hyperirritable spot in skeletal muscle that is associated with a hypersensitive palpable nodule in a taught band. The spot is painful on compression and can give rise to characteristic referred pain, referred tenderness and motor dysfunction.

Trigger Points can be the cause of a range of ailments and can cause

  • Headaches

  • Tennis Elbow

  • Golfers Elbow

  • Poor Posture

Slight to moderate discomfort may be with Dry Needling initially, and can also radiate to other areas in the body. This is normal, and the pain will subside quite quickly.  Dry Needling can however be less painful than manual treatment.The main goal is always to correct myofascial dysfunctions.  

 


Relaxation

Focusing on overall relaxation of the mind and the body, this massage technique uses a series of firm flowing strokes.

This treatment is not designed to relieve chronic pain and underlying ailments but to allow the client to recover from their daily stresses
